Basil Essential OilBasil Essential Oil has a strong, spicy aroma and can refresh the mind, soothe the body, and help restore mental alertness during times of fatigue. When applied topically, basil can relax tired, aching muscles. Basil essential oil may also sharpen your sense of smell when inhaled and is a wonderful addition to favorite recipes that call for this herb. Basil has an approximate ORAC of 540,024 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter. Basil is one of the essential oils used in Raindrop Technique.

Basil Essential Oil Historical Data: Used extensively in traditional Asian Indian medicine, basil's name is derived from "basileum", the Greek name for king. In the 16th century, the powdered leaves were inhaled to treat migraines and chest infections. The Hindu people put basil sprigs on the chests of the dead to protect them from evil spirits. Italian women wore basil oil to attract possible suitors. It was listed in Hildegard's Medicine, a compilation of early German medicines by highly-regarded Benedictine herbalist Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179).

Methylchavicol (estragol) — 40-80%
Linalol — 10-50%
1,8 Cineole — 1-7%
Eugenol — 1-10%

Wellness Solutions: Basil essential oil supports the muscular system in alleviating strained and sore muscles, and is immune system enhancing; also reduces mental fatigue.

Uses: Basil essential oil oxygenates cells, support the body's natural defenses and immune response such as insect bites. Basil is excellent for migraines and throat/lung infections.

Application: Dilute 1 part EO with 4 parts organic vegetable oil. Apply directly on location, chakras/Vita Flex points (crown of head, forehead, heart, and navel), directly inhale, diffuse, or take as a dietary supplement. When using as a supplement, dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of vegetable oil and put in a capsule. Then take one capsule before each meal or as desired.
